Building on raw land? Here is the usual order.

Most rural projects follow the same path. Trucks need a driveway, and the house needs power, septic, and water. Plan my land turns this into a printable plan with rough costs for your acreage.

  1. Clear the landTrees, brush, stumps
  2. Excavate & drivewayPad, drainage, gravel drive
  3. Power to the landService run, poles, panel
  4. SepticPerc test, permit, install
  5. Water wellDrill, pump, test
  6. Water lines & hookupsWell to house, hydrants, septic tie-in
  7. PondDig, dam, stock
  8. Pole barnShop, garage, storage
  9. Storm shelterShelter or safe room

This is a common order, not a rule. Your county, soil, and contractors may change it. See county guides for who to call.

Questions

What is Rural Contractor Network?

Finally, a place for rural contractors. It is a network built for the businesses that work where the pavement ends. It is also a free directory where landowners can find pros for land clearing, excavation and driveways, power to the land, well lines and rural plumbing, septic, water wells, well pumps and water treatment, ponds, timber services, pole barns, and storm shelters.

Why not just use a big home-services app?

Big apps are built around city and suburban jobs. Rural work like a 1,000-foot service run, a well-to-barn water line, or a frost-free hydrant is the landowner-side work those directories don't send you, so we built a place around it.

Is it free for landowners?

Yes. Searching the directory and requesting quotes is free for landowners.

Do you sell my request to lots of contractors?

No. You pick 1 to 3 pros, and when the form goes live your request will go only to them. It is never resold. If you check other trades you need, each one gets its own request only with your OK.

What order should raw land work happen in?

A common order is: clear the land, do the excavation and driveway, bring in power, put in the septic system and well, run the water lines and hookups, then build the pond, barn, home, or storm shelter. Your site and county rules may change the order, so ask your contractors.

Does a listing mean you recommend the contractor?

No. A listing is not an endorsement. Always check licenses, insurance, reviews, and permits yourself.
